Jasper is the county seat for Pickens County and is known as "The First Mountain City". Pickens County is centrally located in North Georgia. Just one hour from Atlanta and an hour and a half from Chattanooga, TN. We are bordered to the South by Cherokee County and to the North by Gilmer County. To the west we are bordered by Gordon, and to the east by Dawson. Pickens County encompasses some 232.1 square miles. The county population is about 26,000 and 2,500 residents are in the City of Jasper. We are a quiet rural community made up mostly of farms that dot the hillsides and valleys. Mother nature has provided us with pristine streams and waterfalls that flow throughout our county.
